In L’ETNO’s permanent exhibition, It’s Not Easy Being Valencian, a reflection is proposed on various issues using Valencian society as a reference — from the end of the pre-industrial world to the present day.
As with all cultures, Valencians face an uncertain identity future, caught between an increasingly homogeneous global culture and the desire to preserve traditions and practices that are seen as their own, rooting them in a specific territory and community.
All cultural identities — from the Valencian to the European — are subject to contradictions, tensions, and a lack of consensus. Some see these differences as something positive; others reject them. While some defend only their own identity with an exclusionary stance, others advocate for multiculturalism. What seems clear is that, far from being a closed issue, cultural identity is in constant evolution — a continuous dialogue among the diverse sensibilities present in society.
Each visit will last approximately two hours and will be led by the Director of L’ETNO, Joan Seguí, and the museum’s Head of Cultural Outreach, Education and Communication, Francesc Cabañés.
