“Design for the DANA”
Design as a Key to Emergency

The CEU Cardenal Herrera University organizes a conference and exhibition of prototypes from the project “Design for the DANA” at the Palacio de Colomina, coordinated by Miguel Roldán and Jordi Ardanuy. In this initiative, volunteer students from the Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Design Engineering and Product Development created a collection of furniture for people affected by the DANA that struck last year.

The DANA (a cold drop storm), which hit the Region of Valencia in October 2024, caused severe damage to homes and everyday spaces. The affected people saw their quality of life diminished, facing urgent needs for furniture and basic equipment to rebuild their homes. This project, presented in the exhibition Disseny com a clau d’emergència, emerged as a supportive and proactive response from the academic community of the School of Technical Education (ESET), with the goal of helping those affected through their knowledge of design and technology.

The result is a collection of furniture designed to reestablish basic living conditions using accessible, affordable, and sustainable methods that can be produced locally on a small scale — and replicated in future crises around the world.

The exhibition, open from October 14 to 18, 2025, at the Palacio de Colomina Exhibition Hall in Valencia, includes photographs from the workshop carried out by students and professors in the town of Catarroja, where 14 families were able to refurbish their homes.
